"Guess what I found! I have been around for a while, and I hope many of you will remember seeing me in a square hole somewhere; but digging isn't all there is to archaeology. There is experimental archaeology, landscape archaeology, standing buildings, interpretation & presentation. Not to even mention curation, preservation, even history and genealogy. The list goes on. I would like to hear from you, and so would the public, on all those topics and more. The whole scope of heritage belongs to you."

Lonnie Franklin

Lonnie Franklin, Director

As an undergraduate at the University of South Carolina, Lonnie Franklin realized his dream of being an archaeologist was financially impractical. Thus, he became a CPA with plans to one day return to his true calling.

It took a few years, but he eventually earned a graduate degree in archaeology from the University of Leicester in Great Britain and became a registered professional archaeologist. In 2009, he founded SCarchaeology.org, a non-profit corporation to help those who like him, have an unquenchable desire to learn about history.

Lonnie plans to use the internet to give non-professional researchers the ability “walk down the electronic hallway, stick their head in the door of a co-worker and ask for advice or help.”

He is a member of RoPA, AIA, ASSC, Ancient America Archaeology Group, Archaeology History Enthusiasts Group, and the Society for Historical Archaeology.
